The Seven Pharmacy First Conditions
NHS Pharmacy First lets our pharmacists assess and, where appropriate, treat seven common conditions — without you needing to see a GP. Walk in or book a same-day appointment.
Sinusitis
FOR AGES 12+
Sinusitis usually clears up on its own, but if symptoms have lasted more than 10 days or are getting worse, our pharmacist can assess you and prescribe treatment if needed. Typical signs include facial pain or pressure, a blocked or runny nose, reduced sense of smell, and a high temperature.
Sore Throat
FOR AGES 5+
Most sore throats are viral and get better within a week. We use a clinical scoring system to identify the small number that may benefit from antibiotics, so you get the right treatment without unnecessary medication. Bring anyone aged 5 or over who's struggling with throat pain, fever, or swollen glands.
Earache (Acute Otitis Media)
FOR AGES 1–17
Middle ear infections are common in children and often painful. Our pharmacist can examine the ear, advise on pain relief, and prescribe antibiotics if clinically appropriate — saving a trip to the GP when your child is already miserable.
Infected Insect Bites
FOR AGES 1+
An ordinary bite that has become hot, painful, spreading, or weepy may have developed a bacterial infection. Pop in for an assessment — we can prescribe an oral antibiotic where one is needed, or recommend the right over-the-counter care if not.
Impetigo
FOR AGES 1+
Impetigo is a contagious bacterial skin infection that causes red sores or blisters, often around the nose and mouth, which crust into a yellow-brown scab. We can assess and prescribe a topical or oral treatment to clear it up quickly and reduce the risk of spreading it.
Shingles
FOR AGES 18+
Shingles starts as tingling or burning skin, followed by a painful blistering rash on one side of the body. Antiviral treatment works best when started within 72 hours of the rash appearing, so don't wait — come in as soon as you suspect it.
Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)
WOMEN AGED 16–64
Burning when you wee, going more often, or cloudy urine? Uncomplicated UTIs in women aged 16 to 64 can now be treated by your pharmacist. We'll assess your symptoms, rule out anything that needs a GP, and supply antibiotics where appropriate — discreetly and on the same day.
